Frederick (Rick) Neth

Senior Associate

Rick Neth joined JB&B in 2022 and serves as a Senior Associate, bringing nearly 40 years of experience in plumbing and fire protection design. He currently leads the Plumbing and Fire Protection Department in the Boston Office and has worked on projects across numerous sectors, including commercial, residential, healthcare and life sciences. He is involved in all aspects of the design process, from schematic design through construction administration.

Mr. Neth has experience in the design and project management of plumbing and fire protection systems. His work has included evaluations of existing mechanical systems, studies comparing alternatives, and computerized analysis and design of sprinkler systems utilizing SprinkCAD. He has designed systems for large and highly complex buildings, including commercial, institutional, and historical facilities. He has been involved in all aspects of work from preliminary design through final design, including preparation of specifications, cost estimating, field inspections, and services during construction. His years of hands-on experience as a licensed Journeyman Plumber (Maine) and Licensed Second Fireman - Massachusetts Unlimited Boiler Operator gives him an added perspective in his design work.

As the Former Boston Chapter President of the American Society of Plumbing Engineers, he was in charge of day-to-day operations of the chapter, coordinating chapter events and interfacing with the National Society of Officers. Among other roles with ASPE’s Boston Chapter, he served as former Education Chairman, organizing and teaching Plumbing 101 courses as well as forming a student chapter of the society.

Mr. Neth holds a Bachelor of Engineering Technology degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Wentworth Institute of Technology. He earned his Fundamentals of Engineering in Massachusetts and has passed the CIPE exam from the American Society of Plumbing Engineers.
