Managing Principal

Ryan Lean serves as a Managing Principal at JB&B and leads JB&B Field®, a dynamic division that harmonizes nine distinct field-related services in a single comprehensive offering. Since 2004, Mr. Lean has amassed a wealth of expertise in building commissioning and related services across diverse sectors such as commercial, mission-critical, educational, laboratory, healthcare and LEED green buildings. Drawing from a rich background in mechanical design, he orchestrates the management of all JB&B Field® projects, notably Commissioning, Balancing and MEP Advisory Services.

Beyond the realm of projects, Mr. Lean perceives building commissioning not merely as a service but as a conduit for cultivating profound partnerships with Owners and operators. He sees commissioning and all field services as a way to guide them through the maze of challenges when moving into new spaces.

Internally, he has been pivotal in transforming JB&B’s in-house training program into JB&B University, nurturing talent within the firm. Now in its tenth year, JB&B U stands as a testament to the firm’s unwavering commitment to foster a culture of perpetual learning and growth from within.

Externally, his impact reverberates, exemplified by his pivotal role on the Building Commissioning Association (BCxA) International Board of Directors. Having served as both the past president of the BCxA and the Building Commissioning Certification Board (BCCB), the body instrumental in establishing certification standards for professional commissioning providers, Mr. Lean’s impact on the industry is consistent and enduring.

Mr. Lean holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University at Buffalo, State University of New York. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the States of Connecticut, Massachusetts, Missouri, Michigan, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and is also a Certified Commissioning Professional, WELL Accredited Professional, Existing Building Commissioning Professional, Certified Energy Auditor and LEED Accredited Professional.
