MSKCC David H. Koch Center for Cancer Care

Located along the East River, the facility was designed to survive a 500-year flood event, including automatic and manual floodgates, above-flood elevation mechanical equipment, and 25,000-gallon subbasement-level fuel tank in a concrete weatherproof vault. MEP systems were brought up to the 2nd and 3rd Floors to protect building assets during a flood condition. This influenced space planning throughout the building and required modification of incoming utility services. Traditional street utility services were decoupled and migrated to interior elevated spaces to achieve flood resiliency requirements. 

The project achieved LEED Gold certification. It was named ENR New York’s Best Project in Health Care in 2020. The project also received a 2021 Diamond Award by ACEC New York in the category of Building/Technology Systems.
